Well, at least now if somebody else has the same problem, there's a posted solution.  Grin

OK ... I'm an idiot.

Named it Chat, rather than chat. Soon as I changed that, everything now works.

Sorry to have had to bother you about such a tiny matter. Entirely my fault.

Try creating the Variables/chat/chatce.log file - it should have been created automatically but it seems that maybe it isn't. Also make sure the permissions of the Variables/chat folder are set to 755.
That file holds the chatce participant info. (The cdupdatechat refers to the 'update participants function')

The no-insert bug is specific to Mozilla and refers to not inserting URLs and e-mail addresses as expected.

OK, on the off chance I wasn't understandable in my previous post ... this is not working for me.

The Chat settings show up.

The Chat link shows up in the command bar (twice ... I'll eventually have to figure out how to get rid of the second one.) Edited:
Fixed

The chat box shows up, with all of it's buttons and features.

But nothing that I type in shows up in the chat, it just disappears into nothingness.

I do not get listed as a person in the chat (nobody is listed.)

The instructions say to create a directory by the name of Chat in the Variables directory. I did this, but even after trying to use the Chat, there is nothing in this directory, so it does not seem to be being used.

To my knowledge, this is one of the two mods that I have installed that is not working, and one of the two that I want to get working, before setting it up as my real forum, and transferring everything over.

Using the chat does not seem to cause any problems with the forum or any error messages in the error log ... just nothing happens.

The one kind of error that is showing up in the error log is related to me being on the site, and concerns an action called cdupdatepart. Anyone know what this action is about?

Edited:
Uh ... was reading the error wrong:
Quote:
Something bad has happened. Please inform the Admin of this forum of what you were doing when this error occurred. ./Members/admin.vars
:
http://peteytheclown.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?board=&action=cdupdatechat

So the only errors in the log almost certainly directly relate to the problem I am having with this mod ... but it does not throw the error every time I try to make a post to the chat, so I don't know just what the problem is.

Um ... the problem mentioned above of nothing being sent to the chat window ... was that ever corrected or dealt with?

I have this one installed and turned on. It loads fine, but I never show up on the participants list, and when I type a message and hit submit, the screen flashes white for a split second, but no message ever shows up.

For 2.6.11

The insert URL still isn't right in Firefox and MSIE.

ChatBox - YaBB 2.6.1 1.3
Based on Chat CE Carsten

This mod adds a Chat Box with wysiwyg editor to your 2.6.1 Forum.
Besides a "General Chat" room it uses the existing Board names as Chat room names.
It'll show a list of participants for every Chat room.
Participants can start/stop Chat auto-update.

Admin can:
- Enable / disable Chat
- Enable Chat Button on Message Index
- Enable / disable alert before deleting a Chat message
- Exclude Board names not wanted as Chat rooms
- Set max. number of characters in a Chat message
- Set the number of minutes Chat messages stay alive
- Set the number of minutes inactive participants stay in the Chat log
- Set Chat/participants update rate in seconds

Before you apply this mod you must download the Variables/Settings.pm file to the Variables folder in your BoardMod folder structure.

Apply this mod.

Upload (in ASCII mode):
cgi-bin/yabb2/Admin/ModList.pm
cgi-bin/yabb2/Admin/NewSettings.pm
cgi-bin/yabb2/Admin/Settings_Main.pm

cgi-bin/yabb2/Languages/English/Menu.lng

cgi-bin/yabb2/Sources/AdvancedTabs.pm
cgi-bin/yabb2/Sources/MessageIndex.pm
cgi-bin/yabb2/Sources/Subs.pm
cgi-bin/yabb2/Sources/SubList.pm
cgi-bin/yabb2/Sources/TabMenu.pm

cgi-bin/yabb2/Templates/default/MessageIndex.template
cgi-bin/yabb2/Templates/default/Menu.def

cgi-bin/yabb2/Variables/Settings.pm

public_html/yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default.css

From the zip package upload (in ASCII mode):

cgi-bin/yabb2/Languages/English/ChatBox.lng
cgi-bin/yabb2/Sources/Mods/ChatBox.pm

and (in binary mode):
public_html/yabbfiles/ModImages/chat1.png
public_html/yabbfiles/ModImages/chatce/*.*

(The url and email insert section still doesn't work in FireFox and MSIE.)

Working on getting Chat to work - 95% there except that the url and email input sections don't work in FireFox and MSIE. They do work in Chrome and Safari.
(This is also true of ChatCE installed on YaBB 2.4 so I know I didn't break it.)

I have submitted the problem section to Daniweb so hopefully someone will point out what hack MSIE and Firefox need for that section to work. (I've been fighting this section for a couple days and none of the 'generic' suggestions have solved it.)

Code (Perl)
Select All
    print qq~<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="$abbr_lang" lang="$abbr_lang">
<head>
    <title>$linktitle</title>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=$yymycharset" />
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="$yyhtml_root/Templates/Forum/$usestyle.css" type="text/css" />
    <script type="text/javascript">
        function insertHyperlink() {
            window.opener.document.getElementById('wysmessage').contentWindow.focus();
            var theLinktype = '$linkttext';
            var mylink = document.getElementById('url').value;
            var theLink = theLinktype + mylink;
            ommand("Unlink", false, null);
            ommand("CreateLink", false, theLink);
            window.close();
        }
    </script>
</head>
<body class="windowbg" style="min-width: 460px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">

             </td>
        </tr>
    </table>
    </form>
    <script type="text/javascript">
        document.getElementById('url').focus();
